The Inogen One batteries are able to be charged through the concentrator, but having multiple batteries can complicate that process and make it difficult to assure that all are being fully charged. In response, the external battery charger was introduced, which operates with its own power supply when connected to the mains. When you slide it over the battery, the charger will initiate automatically, so you can be sure your batteries are always powered and ready to go. In addition, the external battery charger also offers faster recharge times compared to the concentrator - it takes just 0.8 hours for a full charge.
